I was actually feeling ambitious and decided to throw together a guide (a couple of years ago) as I went through Hollow Knight. It's unusual for me to restart a game after something like that I must have liked it quite a bit or had too much time on my hands. I ended up restarting a new game and making sure to never explore that far without checking in at those points again. I was so mad I thought about just deciding not to finish. Even when I did somehow reach my body, I still got killed because I got there in such bad shape. I went about going to my body but it was so long and hard without upgrades I died a lot. Towards the end of the game, I died and my last check point was on the other side of some difficult sections. It was a while ago, so my memory of it isn't perfect, but you would spawn back at the last place you checked in and then would have to fight without your upgrades until you defeat your corpse to get your power ups back. It wasn't because I didn't like the game. The one that I came closest to not finishing was the Mummy Demastered. I think I've finished every Metroidvania I started.
